Adjusting the drag link, pitman and steering arm for pre1953 Advance
The pitman arm connects to the steering bar, ok I think it is drag link, is there a joint that can wear out? Jeep with a Rubicon Express suspension, track bar, using a drop pitman arm. It looks like there is too much play or movement with the bolt that connects these 2 parts when the steering wheel is turned.

283 posts · Joined 2009. #6 · Dec 18, 2009. take one hammer and hold it on one side of the pitman arm, smack the other side of the arm with another bfh a couple of times. then put your pickle fork on. replaced all front end parts a couple weeks ago, drag link end at pitman arm came off after a few good whacks with piclke fork and a bfh.

I did it to help keep the tie rod from hitting the drag link's bolt in the pittman. And it took only a few more turns of drag link length adjustment to keep the same steering center.

Set the pitman arm to full passenger lock, adjust drag link length to fit back into the knuckle, remember to tighten the 15mm clap bolt. Replace nut on drag link, tighten till snug. Straighten the wheels back to straight ahead. Check steering wheel and pitman arm placement. Torque drag link nut to spec. Seems fine, but I definitely can't wheel.
